New and exciting psychedelic vistas...

More and more it seems that the best black metal is the black metal that doesn’t exactly sound like black metal. Leading that pack of infidels and eathens is Chicago’s
Nachtmystium. They have a cold and grim back catalogue, but with the Century Media release (sheer coincidence, mind) of their ‘Black Meddle’ series, guitarist / vocalist
Blake Judd and his chargers have taken black metal (and metal for that matter) to new and exciting psychedelic vistas. A definite headphone listen, ‘Addicts...’ resembles
Vried,
Immortal and
Mayhem as much as it does
Zappa,
Camel and
Einstürzende Neubauten with the atmosphere of a drug den sullied with the tortured emotion of a Edvard Munch painting.
