Mucc - ‘Kyutai’

Rating: 8

Making an almighty racket, J-rockers Mucc have always been passionate musicians while inseparable from their Western influences. Their 07 debut ‘Shion’ saw the band flirt with every style of musical genre and ‘Kyutai’ follows its predecessor showcasing a sprawling set of arrangements that go from throwaway pop-rock to metal in the space of twenty seconds (‘Oz’). Gregarious, loud and accessible, language holds no barriers as Tatsurou’s vocals move from whispers ‘Flotage’ to all out screams on standout track ‘Sora To Ito.’ Overall not a massive change from ‘Shion’ (but with fewer ballads and a penchant for 80’s inspired metal). A worthy second helping not to be missed.
