Moving Mountains - Waves

Rating: 7

Leaving their days of epic, post-rock 10-minuters behind and favouring a more mainstream-friendly approach, New York quartet Moving Mountains have reinvented themselves for their Triple Crown debut. Opting for a slicker stance, experimenting with multi-vocal layering, soaring melodies and a propensity for bursts of rampant energy, as well as calming numbers criss-crossed with soothing, temperate tones and string accompaniments, this album is quite a mix of emotions. Still prone to the odd outburst of screamed, raging chorus, but this is generally clean and serene. Produced by multi-talented vocalist / guitarist Gregory Dunn in the band’s home studio; these could just be ones to watch.
