Ball-bustingly intense and breathtakingly beautiful, lovely!

The gestation period for this third record from Leicester instrumentalists
Maybeshewill purportedly involved 18 months of intense writing and recording. Just as well, then, that it’s the most ball-bustingly intense and breathtakingly beautiful thing they’ve done. Written as “the soundtrack to an as-yet-unimagined film”, at its most overwhelming, in the likes of ‘Farewell Sarajevo’, it borders on genuinely harrowing – in the very best way. Elsewhere, the spritely ‘Critical Distance’ couldn’t be much more emotionally converse, while ‘Take This To Heart’ rocks with impressive menace to complement orchestral and synth sounds. Never pandering to trite post-rock tricks, ‘I Was Here…’ is pretty damn special.
