Following on from a slurry of limited edition runs, re-issues and rarities compilations since '09's ‘Real Talk’, Man Overboard have done a fine job of not only flying the flag high for DIY pop-punk, but also at emerging as the forerunners of the scene. In honesty, their Rise debut reveals little reinvention, but the nuts and bolts of what makes them so affable have only been tightened and polished further. Man Overboard have a formula that just works and while ‘Not The First’ and ‘Dead End Dreams’ stand tall as potential lead singles, there really isn’t a dud track here.
