Lightning Bolt - Earthly Delights

Rating: 8

Come their last album, 05’s ‘Hypermagic Mountain’, Rhode Island hyperpower bass’n’drum throb’n’roll duo Lightning Bolt unexpectedly found themselves in the position of having an actual FANBASE who would ACTIVELY wait for a followup record. To which they said “suck it”, drifted off for four years and then blasted back with ‘Earthly Delights’. Overall, they aren’t attempting to vastly further their aesthetic – the weirdly doomy ‘Colossus’ is probably their biggest departure from type – but it was already one of the most original floated in rock’s last decade, and it friggin’ slays nearly every time, so shut up and play yer air drums.
