Stripy pullover-clad Saddle Creek followers will get their fringes blown back with ‘Dusk’, Ladyfinger (ne)’s second album for the Nebraska label after 06s opus ‘Heavy Hands’. The latter was solid but fairly unmemorable; its successor, on the other hand, pummels at solar plexuses with real intent, Chris Machmuller’s straightforward, honest vocals grabbing you by the lapels for a damn good talking to. They do delicacy momentarily too, until the thoughtful intro of ‘Little Things’ explodes in a head-turning post-hardcore stampede. The ballsy sound is satisfyingly full, with even a hint of Dave Grohl’s heaviest Foo Fighters adventures, and the only ignorable moment is the closing fade out that curtails the record. Classy.
