Kill Casino - ‘Paper Walls And The Voice Downstairs’

Rating: 7

09 has been one hell of a year for female fronted acts, so what better time for Kill Casino to offload ‘Paper Walls and the Voice Downstairs.’ This second mini-album instalment continues to refine the catchy alt-rock that Kill Casino championed on 07 debut ‘I’ve Been To London To See The Queen.’ While the sound is more polished, Karen Luan’s vocals remain as distinctive as ever. The most interesting track is ‘Nightclubs’ that sways into Dresden Doll territory rather than Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Overall the songs are uniformly first-rate landing on the right side of originality rather than emulation. This is contemporary and exciting rock.
