Kasms - ‘Spayed’

Rating: 5

A product of the fallout of several bands, by far the best known being useless London fluoro-punks Test Icicles, Kasms would seem to represent a deliberate escape from their previous efforts, as well as a stylised attempt to capture the echoey, nest-haired wail of 80s UK gothisms. Frontwoman Rachel Mary Callaghan eats a packet of cheese before bedtime and dreams of being Siouxsie, or two packets for dreams of being Lydia Lunch. They try their hand at a bit of spooky chanting (the title track) and thudding punkouts (previous single ‘Bone You’), and the results are not totally unpromising but feel, for now, a little too much like dress-up.
