Building on their more radio-friendly ‘Orientation’ EP last year, Brighton quartet Jumping Ships show a real step up in their abilities on this EP. Angular and progressive, the likes of ‘Movers And Shakers’ and ‘Bygones’ are slow-burning indie-rock wonders that bury themselves into your ear canals, while lead single ‘Talisman’ showcases vocalist Michael Williams’ tones as exceptionally quirky and always unique. An extra gloss on production has done the five tracks here some serious favours (not that they need them) and overall, ‘Standard Bearer’ is a launching platform for these guys to do some serious commercial damage.
