Juliette Lewis - ‘Terra Incognita’

Rating: 7

Disbanding The Licks and returning with The New Romantiques heralded a new start for Juliette Lewis. Gone is the raw and feisty garage rock that she made her (undeniably grand) entrance with. These days the guitars are a lot lighter, and she thinks nothing of throwing in blues (‘Hard Lovin’ Woman’), cute countrified pop (‘Uh Huh’), or a haunting trip into PJ HarveyPJ Harvey territory. Sadly, all the switching around makes for an incoherent album, and it feels like Lewis is still trying on personas to see which one fits her best. If she chooses the PJ Harvey route though, she’ll make a killing.
