Irepress - Samus Octology

Rating: 7

Similarly hailing from Boston, had Isis been force-fed math-rock records with their metal-fortified breakfast cereals of choice, the adolescent outcome might've become Irepress. Logic dictates concentration is deathly important during 'Samus Octology': a millisecond daydreaming and Irepress pronounced 'ear-press' disappear down the time-change highway without as much as a rear-view glance. In intentions, the quintet drop no marks for inventive, evolving dedication, enveloping undulating post-rock and crisp instru-metal. It's just, as demonstrated on 'Samus', a monumental head of steam all too often ends up directed through multiple valves at random occasions where it had originally threatened to initiate one almighty blast wave. Perversely, that also provides half the fun, because you never quite know where Irepress will somersault next.
