Horseback - The Invisible Mountain

Rating: 7

Horseback are the result of band leader and mastermind Jenks Miller’s brain absorbing just about every album he’s ever heard (check out the influences section on their Myspace!), synthesising it after a weekend of organic, mountain-grown skunk weed, bathtub gin, and a playlist consisting of Neil Young, Norwegian black metal, Baroness, Isis, Svarti Loghin, Envy, Amon Düül II, spaghetti westerns, Celtic Frost, US Christmas, Grails and the Neurosis side-projects. The songs are long, circuitous and balance an emotional and thunderous anger with almost soothing melodies, all of which can equally feature in the background at your next ritualistic murder circle or hot stone massage session.
