Holy Grail - Crisis In Utopia

Rating: 8

The DragonForce-quality shred, Overkill-like thrash, Fates Warning-ish vocals and Acceptable melodies of lead-off track, ‘My Last Attack’, opens a window as to what these Los Angeles natives are all about: metal, metal and more fucking metal! These days, everyone sporting patched-up denim, leather and ridiculous hi-tops will be considered ‘thrash revivalists’, but Holy Grail are much more. They thrash, certainly, but they also have the technical chops, write choruses that would have been 80s Headbangers’ Ball barnburners with dichotomous lyrics and scorching leads bringing it all home, even with the medieval, energy-sucking cheese of halfballad ‘The Blackest Night’ rearing its head.
