Hermano - Into The Exam Room

Rating: 9

You'll definitely need to dig out the shades for this beauty! Furnished, burnished and kicked into shape from one side of the States to the other, 'Into The Exam Room', Hermano's third studio album, is a blinding affair full of huge riffs that build like a sonic tsunami. Recording sessions in the searing Californian desert sun, the lakes of Ohio and in the Deep South have added their own accents, giving a distinct individuality to each track; there's the finger-lickin' good tobacco-chew of opener 'Kentucky', while the sun-kissed 'Dark Horse II' drips with the essence of a psychedelic desert excursion and could almost be the soundtrack for Val Kilmer's sandy escapades as Jim Morrison. But this isn't a laidback affair; check out the storming, vintage valve amp grooves of 'Left Side Bleeding', which will have you rocking the arse off those denims, and hints of Soundgarden in the guitar work of 'Hard Working Wall'. Not forgetting the unmistakable tones of one-time Kyuss man John Garcia, whose timbres will lull one minute and shake you up the next. What began as a side-project could easily become The Doors for a new generation; this is a classic in the making.
