Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

Rating: 8

Few albums arrive with this much expectation weighing heavy across their shoulders and anything short of perfection will doubtlessly see the world demand Axl Rose be put before a firing squad. That it would never meet such expectation isn't surprising though that's not to say that several of the tracks - Street Of Dreams, Better, Riad N' The Bedouins - don't flirt dangerously close to genius. Easily the equal of the bloated Use Your Illusion's, here the guitars scream with purpose and Rose's vocals are even more acidic than you remember. GnR of 08 may be a far different beast to that you remember, but their appetite for destruction remains.
