Gatorface - Wasted Monuments

Rating: 6

Featuring Alex Goldfarb and Richard Minino of defunct hardcore troupe New Mexican Disaster Squad, Orlando, Florida’s Gatorface plough a rambunctious, old-school pop-punk furrow. The manner in which the 13 songs that make up ‘Wasted Monuments’ are captured is rawer than steak tartare fresh from an abattoir. The problem is that they’re not all hugely engaging or memorable songs. There are decent moments in the likes of the catchy ‘Not Scientists’, and the comparisons that come to mind while listening – from Black Flag to Violent Femmes in ‘Burning Crosses’ – are all ace. Sadly, though, ‘Wasted Monuments’ does make one wonder if they could have made something much better.
