Frank Turner - ‘Poetry Of The Deed’

Rating: 8

His first two album releases indeed set a rather lofty benchmark for future efforts to be measured by and in terms of musical depth (pitched somewhere between the big-band approach of Get Cape… and Ben Kweller’s expansive yet simplistic folk sounds) and easy-to-relate-to lyrical output, third effort ‘Poetry Of The Deed’ passes the test with flying colours. Turner continues to throw extra elements into the mix, the sounds of harmonicas, pianos and violins cropping up where needed. ‘The Road’, as well as being the album’s best track, informs listeners as to the man’s intentions via its final refrain, ‘the horizon is my home’. You are welcome anytime sir.
