It’s hard to know what constitutes as screamo these days, but listening to Elder’s latest record, it’s easy to hear that these Philadelphians are the real deal. From the desperate, heart-in-throat vocals of Armando Morales to the taut, melodic guitar work of co-vocalist Craig Woods, the trio deliver a sound that harkens back to the genre’s 90s heyday, albeit infused with tasteful post-rock influences and some fresh ideas of their own. It all comes together beautifully on final number ‘Remember These Days’, which builds to a soaring climax worthy of Envy, leaving the listener breathless, reeling and hungry for more.
