Dutch Schultz - ‘Carve Our Names’

Rating: 8

Featuring Willy Mundell and Russell Crookes from one-time RS faves Throat, the debut from this Northern Ireland trio is a concoction of whipped-up, contagious, post-hardcore melodies with a Celtic edge. Like their former outfit, there’s still a hint of Helmet-like jagged axework and Fugazi-esque discordance (‘On The Shelf’), but taking cues from Therapy? and QOTSA
has hotted-up their sound to a more seductive sonic. The highlight is undoubtedly ‘It Bends In The Middle’ (the track with that pole-dancing video), a racy little romp with a rhythm that’ll have even your nan gyrating! ‘Carve Our Names’ does just as it says on the tin –you’ll not forget this one in a hurry.
