Dead By Sunrise - ‘Out Of Ashes’

Rating: 8

Started in 06 as a side project for Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) alongside Orgy’s Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck, Dead By Sunrise’s debut throws down anguished alt-rock and enough crunching guitars and intense lyrics to frighten off Linkin Park comparisons. ‘My Suffering’ erupts into full-blown screams while ‘Into You’ executes haunting refrain. All the while tempered by catchy choruses that fight out against rock heavyweights like Orgy. There are faults - the opening guitar line on ‘Fire’ channels ‘Pride (In The Name Of Love)’ by U2; but this is a knowledgeable debut by a band that have collectively reaped successes in the music biz and progressed.
