The
Hot Water Music frontman’s solo recorded output thus far, mixing up barn-dance styled hoedowns with downtrodden violin-driven Americana, has won fans far and wide as part of the new folk revolution. His tales of love and loss on ‘Gold Country’ will appeal to those who enjoyed unearthing ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ from their parents’ vinyl collections, particularly on the likes of ‘Rotterdam’. This is the sound of an album made by a man with nothing left to prove, his reputation as a grade-A singer/songwriter with both his band and on his own long since established.
