Brotherhood Of The Lake - Iron Sails

Rating: 8

With riffs fatter than a pre-explosion Mr Creosote and a metallic sound that’s tighter than skinny-fit jeans, Plymouth quintet Brotherhood Of The Lake have delivered eight great tracks in ‘Iron Sails’. Frontman Rob’s vocals are visceral but comprehensible; unlike some peers, Brotherhood Of The Lake don’t get lost in a sludge of showing off at the expense of strong tunes. They’re ambitious songwriters, as evidenced by closer ‘Fathoms Master’, which incorporates piano and strings, but it’s in the title track that they truly excel, literally soundtracking the end of the world. Well, it has to happen sometime, we may as well have a good theme tune.
