Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record

Rating: 7

Something of a poor man’s Arcade Fire, in this writer’s mind at least, amorphous Toronto musical army Broken Social Scene go some way to addressing such unkind assumptions here. True to past form guests are too numerous to list, yet their previously sedate indie-rock-isms bristle with extra barbs this time around. True, at an hour-plus, only myopic fans would contest ‘Forgiveness…’ drags a little by the end, albeit brightened by penultimate Pavement-a-like ditty ‘Water In Hell’. Either way, we’d prefer not to know whether closer ‘Me And My Hand’ is a ‘Teenage Kicks’-level paean to onanism or otherwise, thank you kindly.
