Beatsteaks - Boom Box

Rating: 7

Berlin’s Beatsteaks may well have been ruffling feathers on the other side of the Channel for over a decade, but it wasn’t until 07’s ‘.limbo messiah’ they started to make much of an impression on UK shores. ‘Boom Box’ promises to build on that foundation, delivering fun, straight-up punk rock songs. ‘Cheap Comments’ and ‘Behaviour’ have a retro punk feel to them with their jagged guitar stabs and venomous vocals, while ‘Milk And Honey’ and ‘Automatic’ show a gentler, more accessible side to this lot of German rabble-rousers. It’s a mixed bag, but there’s fun to be had here.
