Balance And Composure - Separation

Rating: 7

The 90s were a weird time. Genres that had no business being in the same room with one another produced offspring (case in point: funk-thrash) and people who dressed like a cross between a clown convention and members of the Chinese Workers’ Party were considered cool. Somehow, from amongst all this eye-searing detritus, some good alternative rock was created and these young Pennsylvanians are continuing that legacy. ‘Separation’ possesses tracks that are as mournful and introspective as Cobain’s funeral, others are as upbeat and energetic as Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Bleed American’; some, like ‘Void’, fall right in the middle. And all without a pair of multi-coloured overalls in sight.
