Arms And Sleepers - The Organ Hearts

Rating: 5

Sometimes, it’s the most accomplished music that proves to be the least engaging, and unfortunately, that’s precisely the case with ‘The Organ Hearts’. Sure, it’s an impressively layered piece of work, but too often tracks drift along in utterly unremarkable fashion, while the album’s latter half descends into trip-hop banality, with the polished gleam of ‘Reprise’ a prime offender. More impressive is ‘Tusk’, with Ben Shepard’s tremulous vocals combining with woozy synths to create something that transcends the merely pleasant and hints at genuine emotion, but in all honesty, this is an album that’s much easier to admire than to love.
