A Storm Of Light - As The Valley Of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade

Rating: 8

As broadly dynamic and multi-textural as this whole post-metal hoo-hah is supposed to be, what often turns out are sound-alike bands shifting between loud distortion and not. Brooklyn’s A Storm Of Light, led by former Red Sparowes, Neurosis and Battle Of Mice man Josh Graham differentiate themselves on ‘As The Valley Of Death…’ with a daring vocal performance and distinct songs that do more than juxtapose clean / dirty riffs. Graham’s throaty baritone drives the proceedings, as well as an epic drum performance from Billy Graves. The songs may be a coruscating swirl ’n’ wash, but they posses a connective tissue of riffs and melodies that have the potential to hook the listener’s ears.
