Tokio Hotel

Tokio HotelTokio Hotel recently undertook a virtual tour as their holographic images were beamed around music stores in Europe.

The 3D holographic tour took in thirteen shops in seven different European countries and saw the band playing to crowds of up to 700 fans despite the fact that the band were not really there. Weird? Definitely.

So how does it work? Well, according to Musion, the company behind the technology, "the 3D image is created by Musion’s unique HD video image capture processes and patented Eyeliner™ Foil apparatus. Smooth motion is on account of Musion’s faster frame rate of 50 interlaced frames per second, which creates the natural image edge blurring necessary for 3D images to look realistic." Got that? Yeah, us too.

So, is this the future of touring music or just a bit of accidental irony from a band who were once accused of miming? You decide, below are a couple of images of the holograms in action.
