Slam Dunk 2010 South: The Aftermath Review
Awesome bands, annoying queues: the story of the day at Slam Dunk South.
Pop-punk champions New Found Glory and ska-core legends Capdown closed the southern leg of Slam Dunk 2010 with brilliant sets, but the festival was marred by bottleneck queues that meant large numbers of fans were left trapped either inside or outside the venue with no option to move.
Earlier in the day Massachusetts' Four Year Strong played a rapturously received set, and Against Me! beat the intermittently terrible weather to bring their anthemic punk rock to the outdoor Jagermeister Stage. They were followed by Alkaline Trio, who brought some darkness to an otherwise overwhelmingly perky and poppy day.
However, for many punters the day was characterised by endless queues and very little communication from stewards and security. As the rain came down and people tried to shelter indoors, central areas became hugely congested and doors were locked on both sides. As the main food outlets were outdoors, if people wanted to eat they were forced to wait in the rain.
Nevertheless, the day was largely good natured, probably due to the innate cheerfulness of the majority of bands. God bless pop punk.
