Lostprophets: ‘The UK Rock Scene Was Dire When We Came Out’
In the latest issue of Rock Sound we salute the Kings of British rock!
At the turn of the 21st century Lostprophets pitched up, swiftly kicked the door down and ignited a worldwide fanbase for impassioned, honest, bold music from the UK. This country's music scene has never been the same since, and we have one band to thank for it.
"We're not arrogant, but when we came out, apart from a few bands, the UK rock scene was dire," guitarist Lee Gaze says in our exclusive cover story. "Nobody was doing it on a big scale. We tapped into that because we were young and youthful and it wasn't contrived in any way.”
Now a decade older than their contemporaries Lostprophets are getting back in the fight with new album 'Weapons'. Are they still up for it? Fuck yeah.
“I feel like I'm getting more competitive as I get older," keyboardist Jamie Oliver adds. "Deep down, I'm thinking about running out of time... or is it about not wasting time? I don't want to waste anything. “I was watching UFC the other week, footballers are 21, 22, but these guys battering the shit out of each other are like 39, 42, in the best shape of their lives. I was like 'I get that!' I can relate to that, because I'm not getting any more passive.”
