LostprophetsLostprophets guitarist Lee Gaze has told Rock Sound that there’s been an unexpected side-product of the delayed release of their fourth album – a massive rock baby boom!

“That’s what happens when a record takes so long to come out,” he told us. “We’ve had nothing else to do so we just produced a mass of babies. It’s pretty unbelievable how many are due in the same time frame. By the time we hit the road there will be six. Six in three years! The last five have all been conceived in one year.”

Lee hasn’t ruled out the formation of a Lostprophets Juniors band in the future and he revealed that he’d like his son to be the drummer.

“He went to see Metallica at five months old and we’ve played him a bit of Megadeth,” he laughed. “I play the guitar to him and he starts to dance and bashes on the strings. I want him to be a drummer because I wanted to be a drummer! We’re not going to force anything on him, but he seems to love music and bashing things.”

More seriously, he blamed the delayed release on their initial choice of producer. “We just went in with the wrong person,” he explained. “We went in with [Goldfinger frontman] John Feldmann and we explained to him how we wanted the album to sound and he said, ‘Yeah, yeah’. We demoed some tracks and they sounded kind of cool but then we went away for a bit. When we came back he’d been fiddling with stuff and it sounded like every other fucking band that he produces. We just said, ‘We’re not into this’.”

Lostprophets eventually persuaded bass player Stuart Richardson to produce. The new album, ‘The Betrayed’, is out early next year on Visible Noise. The band hit the road this month, click here for the dates.
