Hevy 2010: Young Guns On Their Incredible Summer
Young Guns guitarist Fraser Taylor talks to Rock Sound ahead of the band's performance today at Hevy.
Young Guns have come a long way in a year. A really long way.
"Last summer we started our first proper headline tour," guitarist Fraser Taylor tells Rock Sound. "It was great but we had a few ups and downs along the way. The tour started in what can only be described as a Harvester where we played to six people and a load of old couples who were eating roast dinners. It was an experience, but one I'd rather not repeat any time soon."
Speaking as Young Guns prepare to play the Main Stage at Hevy Festival, Taylor acknowledges that today's performance is another milestone in an incredible summer for the band. "The last few months have been nothing short of incredible for us. Some of my favourite bands are playing Hevy this year, it's really shaping up to being one of the highlights of this year for us. We're pretty much playing the shows we all dreamed of growing up and to end it all playing the main stage at Reading and Leeds is a dream come true."
Playing after the group today are Madina Lake, touring without bassist Matthew Leone as he continues to recover from the savage attack that left him fighting for his life in Chicago. Young Guns, like many others, have immense respect for the group's courage in adversity.
"We did a run in Europe with Madina Lake a month before it all happened and I can honestly say I've never met a nicer group of guys," Taylor adds. "We were pretty horrified when we found out, Matthew is a great dude. We saw the other guys the other day, it's really great to see them getting on with things and seeing all the support that everyone in the music industry has given them through the whole ordeal. Obviously we wish them all the best."
