FFAF Unveil Lofty Ambitions For New Album
The band hope to take the oceanic concept of their forthcoming third album to a new level.
Funeral For A Friend hope to take the oceanic concept of their forthcoming third album 'Tales Don't Tell Themselves' to a new level.
"At some point we want to make a really strong live presentation of this album, maybe do some shows just playing this album - “ make it a big event," drummer Ryan Richards told Rock Sound. "And at that point we would want the orchestra, choir, and whatever else we have on the record."
That's right: an orchestra and choir. Should tell you something about the Welsh quintet's new album - “ a lushly-produced, ambitious, big-sounding rock opus based around the travels and travails of a fisherman who gets stranded on a dessert island.
"We wanted to go beyond just using drums, bass, guitar, vocals - “ just get a lot of different instrumentation on it and have it feel like a soundtrack to a film," said Ryan. "The commentary throughout the record is very cinematic."
He added that they have some big ideas for visuals, too - both live and otherwise.
"We've toyed with the idea of making a video for every track," said the skinsman. "On our first record we had a trilogy of videos which incorporated the artwork from our album- ¦ We could do a whole album of videos like that - “ that's something we'd really be interested in doing."
At 10 tracks, 'Tales Don't Tell Themselves' is FFAF's most concise and possibly cohesive effort to date.
Said Ryan: "We just wanted a concise album, no filler - “ the best album we could make."
'Tales Don't Tell Themselves' is out on May 14 on Atlantic. Catch FFAF on their May UK and Ireland tours.
