Download 2011: Linkin Park - ‘We Don’t Want To Be An Orchestra For A Play’
Linkin Park will be rounding off the weekend, and it sounds like it'll be a spectacle...
It’s little wonder that Linkin Park arrive at Download this weekend as headliners – their live shows speak for themselves and whether you’ll openly admit to being a fan or not, Chester Bennington has assured Rock Sound that we’re all in for a treat come Sunday evening:
“We have an amazing team of graphic designers who are controlling what people are going to see, which ties in with ‘A Thousand Suns’,” says the frontman. “In an abstract way it’s almost like a narrative, and it works with our older stuff too. We’ve always tried to be thoughtful about what we put onstage, and we’ve tried our hardest to keep the show from being overtaken by the visuals. We don’t want to be an orchestra for a play; we want to be a band and keep the energy of the live show.”
Quite what he’s hinting at, we’re not sure (our fingers are crossed for lasers, and lots of them), but one thing’s certain – when Linkin Park hit the Main Stage at 21.05 on Sunday evening, they won’t be holding anything back.
