Download 2010: Crime In Stereo Win A Lot Of New Friends
They’ve gone from playing basements to the Pepsi Max stage in a few years, and the Long Island crew have their sights set on bigger things...
Another punk band making inroads into winning over the metal and rock masses at Download 2010 was Crime In Stereo, who took a 2.00pm billing on the third stage and turned it into a massive singalong.
Frontman Kristian Hallbert spoke to Rock Sound after coming offstage yesterday and said: “To be honest I found today amazing. We’re not a band who has ever done stuff like this – we’ve always been deep-rooted in the hardcore scene but the last two records we’ve broken out of that – and the crowd was incredible.”
A band who are usually most at home playing a dingy sweatbox packed to the rafters, the Long Islanders are keen to spread their own gospel to as many people as possible, and clearly see playing massive festivals like this as the key.
”We’ve always been the chameleon band - wherever we are we make ourselves adjust to it. I used to be shit-scared of large stages because I was so used to playing in basements but now I love it. This is our first run of doing European festivals, the first we did was Rock Am Ring and two seconds before going onstage I thought I was going to die. I stepped out and it was the best feeling ever, and today was the culmination of that.
“We never had a goal as a band, but I want as many people as possible in the world to hear us now.”
Go on my son.
