Download 2010: August Burns Red Play Biggest Show Ever, Look Forward To Autumn Tour

They may have played a relatively early slot but the bruisers had a suitably massive crowd at Donington.

Metalcore warriors August Burns Red played the Ronnie James Dio stage to more people than ever before to mark their triumphant return to Download.

Vocalist Jake Luhrs was keen to stress his delight at the huge crowd’s reaction to the set. He told Rock Sound: “It felt like the first real time we’ve played Download – we felt really comfortable onstage. When we played two years ago it was fun but this time it felt right. It put us on cloud nine.

“Today started slow but built itself up around the second song – maybe we had to wake everyone up! But that was maybe one of the biggest crowds we’ve ever played for.”

ABR return to the UK later this year for a tour, and Luhrs hopes the considerable groundwork they laid today by smashing massive riffs into a bunch of knackered festival-goers’ faces will do them proud.

“A festival like this sets you up for club shows – we played to maybe 10,000 people and if even 10 per cent of those people come back to a show then that’s great. We’re looking forward to seeing what it’s like when we come back in the fall.”
