Roadrunner Records Mixtape
When talking about heavy metal labels, Roadrunner Records is still the giant towering over all comers. In the new issue of Rock Sound we celebrate their history and continued impact, and they compiled a special mixtape featuring Slipknot, Trivium, Sepultura and more that you can find right here
Flick through Roadrunner's back catalogue and you'll see the recent history of metal peering back at you - everyone from Deicide, Obituary and Death through to Misfits, Sepultura, Machine Head and Slipknot has worked with them over the past three decades.
We sat down with Senior VP Of A&R Monte Conner to discuss the secrets of their success, which you can read about in the new issue of Rock Sound, and here he's selected the five songs that he feels most define the label. And he's even given us some sleevenotes, so you can pretend these tunes are form that special someone [if that special someone was really, really into metal].

Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots by RockSoundMagazine
“This is just an iconic metal song that you’ll see on a compilation in 20 years time – like ‘Best Metal Of The 90s’!”
Type O Negative - Christian Woman by RockSoundMagazine
“This is a song that pretty much broke Roadrunner Records on the radio over here.”
Slipknot - Wait And Bleed by RockSoundMagazine
“Their biggest hit was Duality, but ‘Wait And Bleed’ is key because it was their first.”
Machine Head - Davidian by RockSoundMagazine
“It’s not as known as the mainstream stuff, but while it’s a bit of an underground track, it’s still an absolute classic.”
Trivium - Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr by RockSoundMagazine
“This is a modern metal classic; the ‘Davidian’ of its time.”
