Band of the Week: Rage Against The Machine
There could only be one choice this week...
So, it looks like the last Christmas number one of the decade is set to be some old rock song that was originally released 16 years ago and managed to peak at number 25. Why? Well, apparently the people of this country are fed up with talent show-related cover versions ruining the battle for Xmas number one every year.
As this is written, ‘Killing In The Name’ by Rage Against The Machine is approximately 65,000 copies ahead of Joe McElderry’s ‘The Climb’ in what is probably the most exciting Christmas chart countdown since The Darkness Vs Gary Jules (yes, seriously) in 2003.
As one of the most influential rock bands in recent history, Rage Against The Machine, in typical controversial fashion, look set to have the biggest hit of their career almost 20 years after its 1993 release. Regardless of whether you agree with the campaign or not, it’s a pretty impressive feat for a band who have technically been shunned mainstream success since their formation and so we take our hats off to them.
Don’t forget to purchase your digital copy of the single now, there’s still time…
