LostprophetsLostprophets are heading back to the green, green grass of home for a string of warm-up shows before an intimate appearance at Reading And Leeds Festival, where they will also be previewing new material from their forthcoming fourth effort, slated for release early next year.

What can people expect from the Reading And Leeds shows?
Says guitarist Mike Lewis: “Reading and Leeds has always been an amazing festival for us so we wanted to make it a bit special. When we first played there in ’01, we felt it was a turning point for us; there was no more playing on the toilet circuit, we stepped up after that. When we played the main stage in ’04 and ’07 those were two of the best gigs we’d ever played. We’re going to play on the smaller stage in the tent to make it more personal again rather than playing the main stage to a huge field full of people.”

Is that because you're worried about the audience turn-out for the Main Stage, then?
“No, not at all. It’s not even a step-down as we’re still headlining and for us it still feels like a big gig. Playing the main stage again would have been like treading water and doing the same thing again and going into the tent is making it more personal and special to us. Don’t get me wrong – it’s awesome to see 50 – 60 thousand people going nuts in the field but sometimes it’s nice to see the whites of their eyes. The energy of the smaller gigs is different to when you’re playing arenas like Wembley – there’s a very different atmosphere. Both have their plusses.”

Talking of plusses, you have an addition to the band - a new drummer...
“It’s Luke Johnson who was in Beat Union. We did some shows with them last year in Japan and they were really cool. That band unfortunately split up so when we were looking for a new drummer, everyone was telling us how good Luke was – we already knew so invited him to come down and jam with us.”

Is he a permanent drummer or just live?
“We’ll play it by ear with these gigs in August. I’m sure he wants to be a permanent member and we want him to be and hope it all works out.”
