Edge Of The World (Prelude)
"I got the ispiration for the lyrics of this song from my family and living inbetween two homes, when we first heard this song recorded we all knew it had to be the first track on the album."
The Harmony
"The lyrics came to me instantly for this song and I knew the way I wanted it to sound straight away. Probably the least amount of time I've ever spent writing and I think that's why I love it so much, This is one of my favourite songs to play live."
A Place Before The End
"We wrote this song while we were over in Salad Days Studios in Baltimore. I remember when I was trying to think of lyrics for this song Brian McTernan took me out for a drive, we played the music in the car and he just told me think about how I was feeling right there and then and to start singing, We drove around for a couple of hours, got pizza and went sight seeing while I sung in his car. The method worked, I finished the song by the end of the night."
Like Elephants
"A girl recently came up to me in a night club, pulled up the back of her shirt and revealed that she had the lyrics from this very song all up her back. I was blown away to be honest, I never thought that I would write lyrics that someone would want to tattoo on themselves, it still freaks me out."
The Heartless And Loving
"The title in this song explains it all I reckon, I see myself being a little heartless and a little loving in certain situations, it's the thing that annoys me most about myself and it's something I thought I should get out. If it wasn't for this band I think I'd have a hell of a lot shit bottled up, it's good to let it all out sometimes."
Little Lovers
"I think this is one of the songs on the album we all really love to play live. We all get involved and bring out extra percussion and play along with Graham at the end. Normally on tour we bring up our mates to play also and grab any drum possible that's in the venue, it gets wild."
Paper Lungs
"I struggle with asthma and this song is about one particular night when I had a bad asthma attack during the night."
Electricity (I Will Not Change)
"We originally wrote this song as an interlude when we were on tour. I gradually came up with the lyrics when we played it live, I would just improvise each night then we put them all together and made it into a proper song, not bad for a silly little interlude."
I Am The Speechless
"This was one of the first songs we wrote for the album, after writingthis we started to get the whole vibe for how are album was going to sound like, it was an exciting time."
Losing All Balance In Fells Point
"We also wrote this song while we were in Salad Days Studio, it was the last song we wrote for our the album. I remember sitting up all night in the studio thinking of lyrics and melodies for the song until I was happy with it. It was close to being a month in America and I had very little contact with my friends and family, I was missing everyone back home and I that helped me with the feel of the vocals."
Hope Street
"This song is about one night I was standing at a bus stop in Glasgow city centre and I witnessed a man being attacked. Everyone just stood and watched and I now regret not saying or doing anything because I was
expecting someone else to make a move, no one did and I was pretty annoyed with myself about it."
Home, Run (1997)
"We made a video for this song and shot it in London in a huge old abandoned building, it was probably one of the scariest things we have ever done. There were massive holes in the floor and we could see straight down to the bottom floor. The place ended up flooding at the end of the day and we had to rush all our gear out of the building as quickly as possibe, it was manic but we did get some nice rain shots for the video."
