Band of the Week: FIghting Fiction
Singer Jacob Glew introduces you to the band's self-titled debut album.
"This self-titled album you are about to hear is the product of about a years' worth of work, and not just ours either. The songs are only half the battle and though we are really proud of writing them, credit is due to our friends, families and loved ones, they are simultaneously our inspiration and our anchoring reality. Special thanks though go to our good friend Mark Williams (our producer), his blood, sweat and laughter is as much in this record as ours is.
Unintentionally, all the songs on the album touch on notions of hypocrisy or the mild delusions of grandeur that are present in the way that people see themselves. They question the things that people do to live, love, thrive and survive, they question what kind of a person you are, and how that compares to the person you thought you were. The moment in the album, for me, where this all comes crashing home in the least pretentious and most honest way, is in the bridge of 'Growing Pains' where the narrator lists his shortcomings as a friend, and concludes with the sad realisation that if his idealistic and passionate teenage self could see what he'd become 'I know he would hate my guts'.
We didn't intend to make a unified concept of an album, it kind of just spilled out of us. We took great care however in spilling it, so we hope you really enjoy it. Click below to start listening."
