Enter Shikari: How I’m Spending My Summer

Rou Reynolds has bad circulation in his legs, apparently. To take his mind off the cold, we asked him about ice cream, Speedos and sandwiches

Enter ShikariEveryone's favourite moshpit maestros Enter Shikari know how to have a good time. They'll be spending the first chunk of their summer touring the carparks of the US as part of Warped, but when Rou Reynolds comes back to the UK it's all about fun in the park with Hundred Reasons.

As it's so hot, if Enter Shikari were going to make some limited edition ice cream flavours as summertime merch, what would they taste like?
“Hmmm. This is a tough one. We always end up experimenting on tour with our rider because we’re eating the same sandwiches every day. We actually found that peanut butter, cheese and lemon curd goes pretty well. You have to get the mix right. We could give the fans taster tests for free!”

You have a new clothing company launching - how's that coming along?
“Hopefully by the time we get back from Warped, there will be a website up which will be http://www.stepuphq.com. We’ve designed a few shirts so far, the idea is to have an organic, carbon neutral clothing line. Trying to cover all bases! Hopefully it will generate an underground community too...”

Are you going to be designing a summer Speedo line?
“Hahaha! No! At the moment we’re staying with tee-shirts because it’s taken a long time to source garments which tick all the boxes, so adding Speedos would be really hard work!”

Back in the UK, if you were to go on an Shikari caravanning holiday and get stuck inside because it's chucking it down outside, how would you amuse yourselves?
“I don’t know, we might end up killing each other! It sounds like a lot of situations we’ve been in, long drives in bad weather. If we had electricity we could play video games, but we’d probably just strangle each other!”

Speaking of avoiding sudden death, when is it not okay for a guy to wear flip-flops?
“Urm, it’s always okay! I am an avid supporter of wearing flip flops in any terrain and in any weather! I always wear them on tour; last winter in Sweden, it was minus 18 and I still managed to wear flip flops!”

Does the rest of the band agree with your flip-flop habit?
“No, they just don’t understand it! I have really bad circulation in my legs, so my feet get freezing anyway. So, fuck it basically!”

To finish, tell us your favourite thing about summer
“Just getting that summer vibe where you can go down the park and listen to Hundred Reasons and be happy! It also brings back a lot of nostalgia, as if all you need is the heat and a lack of clouds, and you’re good to go!”

Let's all listen to Hundred Reasons and pretend it's 2002 again!
