"The songs that make up ' You, The Organ Grinder,' were written over a 12 month period between June 2010 and June 2011. In musical terms, the three of us did not have a crystal clear idea of what we wanted to make, and so Castles emerged in quite an organic manner. We weren't forcing ideas to adhere to a certain trend, we just played what seemed to come naturally. I think this is evident on the record, in both the songs and the way that it sounds. Chris Fielding captured the moment brilliantly. It was all recorded in a very 'live' fashion.
The title comes from a painting by L.S Lowry. It's a painting that I love, and it reminds me of a place that I love. It's fair to say that the album was lyrically influenced by the idea of being socially marginalised, ridiculed in a sense; seen as an outcast. It's a topic that I was toying with around the time of writing, probably because I was getting used to life in a different country, and being immersed in a foreign culture. Not to say that I felt marginalised, but I had the opportunity to imagine what that might be like to some extent. Of course, that's not the sole subject matter of the piece, but certainly an underlying theme.
We hope you like it as much as we do."
