So, it’s all over barring the crying – At the time of writing there are 28 constituencies to be announced. No one can win outright. We will be looking at a hung parliament. Yes we called it, yes we were right.
The coverage was every inch as exciting as we promised non? Even the Rock Sound staff got the bug and stayed up late with mug of hot Vimto. There were a lot of surprises, and a lot of interesting characters.
Currently Nick Clegg has said since the Conservatives have polled the most seats and votes, and he will speak to him about trying to make this work. Very fair and even handed I have to say. The only thing the pundits are suggesting for Gordon Brown is to “have a sleep” – nice one pundits! Have a nap, and this will be all over by the mid afternoon.
We also got our fair share of characters – as the lack of sleep set in, we started to fixate on Big Deek Jackson, a mysterious hybrid of Rob Halford and Dr Strangelove who stood in Gordon Brown’s constituency, ominously watching the results with a solitary raised fist.

At Cameron’s manor there was chap standing who dressed as a crucified Jesus Christ and a bloke who looked like loveable KFC trademark The Colonel. If the Colonel had promised to bring the astonishing Double Down burger to the UK (Two battered chicken breasts with bacon and cheese in the middle – no bun! Only in America!) he probably would have got a lot more votes!
Looking at things on a local level, in Barking & Dagenham/Rainham Labour beat the BNP by a significant margin, which is a massive relief. We saw BNP leader Nick Griffin around a few times with his heavies, a lot shorter than you’d imagine actually. In a cruel ironic twist, the BNP actually polled fewer votes with their leader standing for the seat.
The Green Party gained their first ever parliamentary seat, which I’m sure they’re very pleased about. The turnouts (amount of people who go to vote) actually improved significantly – estimated to be +18% on 2005 – well done UK – you made your opinions known!
