Hall Of Fame: Mastodon’s ‘Remission’
The Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman on why Mastodon's debut album rocks his world.
Blog
For the first entry in Rock Sound's Hall Of Fame we picked the legendary 'Remission' by Mastodon not just because it rocks like a comprehensive bastard but because everything the band have done since has roots in their debut. As both a collection of songs and a cohesive album it's untouchable - but don't take our word for it. Ben Weinman, guitarist and general mastermind of The Dillinger Escape Plan had this to say about it:
“When I first heard ‘Remission’ I was thoroughly stoked. Not only because it was a great record, but also because we were glad to share a label with Mastodon, who were always great guys. Although I think the band has evolved into a much more original and exciting entity, ‘Remission’ represents something extremely honest and the start of something that would grow into one of the most important metal bands of our generation.”
You can read the full argument for why 'Remission' is legendary in Rock Sound 133 - out now! - but what do YOU think about it? Solid-gold classic or overrated beardy nonsense? Did it leave you cold or change your world the first time you heard it, or has it eluded your grasp until now? If that's the case, we strongly advise you checking it out...
Comment below and let us know, people. And what else should we cover in future Hall Of Fames - what albums that you love deserve our love?
