Foo Fighters, Live At The Roundhouse
Dave Grohl and company at the Roundhouse, a night not to be missed?

Considering that they just played to enough people to fill Wembley Arena for about nine nights running, Foo Fighters playing somewhere as comparatively tiny as the Roundhouse as part of the iTunes festival is a landmark, monumental occasion. That people have been queuing since 7am this morning means that the place should be a den of hotbed electricity and “let’s go ape-shit because we’ll never be this lucky ever again” fervour.
While it only seems to ever reach that level of mayhem for the hit singles (‘Learn To Fly’, ‘Monkeywrench’ and ‘All My Life’) and the crowd could politely be described as lukewarm (and accurately as dull), the band themselves are absolutely flawless.
Grohl is the master showman as always, laughing with the audience and even turning bouncer when some meathead starts swinging punches during ‘Skin & Bones’, the mellowest song of the set. There’s an incredibly unexpected appearance from Lemmy to burn through Probot’s ‘Shake Your Blood’ and the energy and excitement that bounds from the stage when Queen’s Bryan May and Roger Taylor join the band for a riotous run through ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ is undeniable.
Though there’s a constant feeling that you’re a member of a live studio audience for a TV show throughout, seeing one of the biggest bands in the world ploughing through timeless classics like ‘Everlong’ and ‘My Hero’ and a pulverising, set-stealing ‘Stacked Actors’ makes for one hell of an event. You just can’t help but wish that the people around you made it feel that way.
