With the Concorde at its capacity, local boys The Xcerts [8] make a splendid effort at filling what little air is left in the venue with their trademark brand of distorted pop. With a sophomore album in the works, tonight’s set is largely composed of the band’s newer, more progressive material, which slots in neatly between the shattering choruses and genteel verses of ‘Crisis In The Slow Lane’ and ‘Do You Feel Safe?’. If the new tracks are anything to go by, their forthcoming album looks set to be an impressive one.

To the ostentatious roar of ‘War Machine’, Fightstar [9] take to the stage a little before 10pm and set about bringing the room to its collective knees. For those that need reminding why this lot put on such a storming show, pick one song – any song – from tonight’s set. ‘Mercury Summer’ sounds slick, ‘Paint Your Target’ anthemic; while the breakdown at the end of ‘Build An Army’ could quite literally flatten cities. They’re very business-like in their delivery – there’s little room for banter between songs but that only underlines the reason why Fightstar are such a formidable live beast to begin with. From start to finish it’s a solid, honest rock show comprised of solid, honest rock songs. Bravo.
