Eagles, Vultures and a rock n’ roll hotel
What a week! Festival shenanigins, gratuitous recovery and checking out a fancy new rock n’ roll hang out. So I thought I’d let you know what’s been going down before I get myself together for tonight's show.

The Reading festival is always worth a look in but this year’s was particularly on target. First up, it didn’t rain, always a bonus. Second, a ‘guest appearance’ always separates the real fans from the festival scenesters, but on combing through the stage times it was hard to not to spot the glaring 'tbc’ slot on the NME stage at 4.40pm on Saturday. Now, I don’t do well in big crowds of people over say, oooh five feet five, but Them Crooked Vultures was well worth being pressed up against a load of lanky musos, craning my neck for a glimpse the almighty triumvirate. Once I'd got over that, other highlights were Gallows, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Radiohead’s outing of Creep – at last!
Elsewhere, I had to try and curb my enthusiasm in the guest area after being introduced to Mr Jesse Hughes from the Eagles of Death Metal. Being a massive fan, grabbing him for an interview for my Friday night New Rock show on Planet Rock was nothing short of bloody marvellous. He was more than happy to talk about his own stuff, his best mate Josh Homme and even give his opinion on aforesaid Vultures. You can hear it tonight between 10pm-midnight on Planet Rock or go to http://www.planetrock.com/liz to listen again.
After several days of much needed sleep, it was off to the Sanctum Hotel in London for dinner, courtesy of some good friends of Planet Rock. If you haven’t heard of it, maybe you watched the TV programme about it being built – Rock n’ Roll Hotel? Well, that’s the one. Entrepreneur Mark Fuller is behind the venture and if you watched the show, you’ll know exactly who I mean. It’s a nice place he’s got too. Gorgeous food, lovely wine and even a Jacuzzi on the roof terrace. I drew the line at getting in that though; skinny dipping on a Thursday is a bit much even for me.
Back at the computer and I’m getting tracks sorted for tonight’s show. Not to mention waiting for the new Wolfmother album to land on my desk. And Muse. And Pearl Jam. And more tasty morsels from That Bloomin’ Supergroup. Wish they’d all get a move on!
