AFI Tour Blog: Japan
AFI guitarist Jade Puget checks in from the road on his new Rock Sound blog!
It's somewhat lame that one of the things I get most excited about when returning to Japan is the special coffee cream they have at Starbucks. It's like a light brown half-and-half that you can only find here, although I'd rather not know what they put into it to make it brown. Ten years of coming to Japan and that's what I'm looking forward to?
Yesterday in Osaka I saw a store that had full-on Nazi SS uniforms for sale. I also saw 2 old women in surgical masks in the front row of our show. Furthermore, there was a hobo bar, fittingly called "Bar Hobo", and a seemingly straightedge bar called "xLet'sxGetxShitfacedx".
We had what was possibly our best Japanese show ever last night. It only took 10 years. It probably didn't help that I yelled "Hello Osaka!" to 10,000 people in Tokyo at the Summer Sonic Festival a few years ago.
I love this place and it saddens me that it seems to have become more Westernized in the last decade. Don't change for us, Japan, don't give up your hobo bars and surgical masks for Affliction shirts and fistfights.
